Lesson 1
Lesson Type: Individual / Private
Lesson Location: Online/Bonny Doon
Rate: $30-95 depending on lesson length and type of package
Low Income Policy: Never hurts to ask.
Student Requirements: An instrument and a desire to learn.
Additional Info: The attitude and enthusiasm I have brought to teaching private violin, viola, fiddle, and cello lessons in Monterey and Santa Cruz, California since 1996, and online via Skype, FaceTime, and Zoom to students on every continent except Antarctica since 2009, is rooted in my own daily discoveries as a performer and international touring artist, as well as the pedagogy of Ivan Galamian, Shinichi Suzuki, Dorothy DeLay, Paul Rolland, Simon Fischer, and Kato Havas.
Caring, passionate, and perceptive, I value holistic approaches. My methods focus on the importance of both the muscles and the mind when learning to play a violin, viola, or cello. Lessons integrate Classical technique, fiddle flavors, and performance/sports psychology, in an encouraging environment that values the importance of a student's unique learning style and the body's natural biomechanics, to facilitate playing that is free of tension, both physically and mentally.

About Laurel Thomsen
Credentials: I’m an internationally touring performer with a private studio since 1996, have had dozens of educational articles published in Strings and Fiddler magazines, host the Violin Geek Podcast and Blog, and have authored several online courses.
Year began teaching: 1996
Specialities: I love troubleshooting! Difficult cases thrill me and I’m very determined. I’m passionate about sharing my love for playing and helping others find ways to play that are more natural and joyous, physically, technically, mentally, and emotionally.
Other information: To me, music is a form of dynamic storytelling and I’m passionate about exploring the range of emotions and genres a bowed-stringed instrument is capable of.
